Do not buy this product from amazon. I purchased this product via amazaon for christmas and the product never worked. I tried to return the product via amazon’s website and received error that the gears contained flammable gases and to contact manufacturer. After going through the crazy amazon return site, to get to the particular contact section, I finally was able to send an email. I received a polite email response stating that the item is no longer available but i can return via mail. When I returned item, i was charged for shipping fee because it was stated that I did not state anything was wrong with product (even when i stated it on invoice and via email). I tried to reply to email with an auto generated email stating i have to go back to site to send email. I went back to site sending another email and I am still waiting for reply. You might get free shipping initially but be sure to know if your item works before purchasing or you might run into problems like i did .

I try VERY hard to buy toys made in the USA. I ordered this and about fell backwards when I looked at the bottom of the box and saw those words I cringe at: MADE IN CHINA.

My grandsons (1 and 3 years old) love the gears and the lights. I didn’t have to buy batteries (included). But, oh, how I detest the fact that I contributed to the demise of American jobs.

I would like to see Amazon add another line on product descriptions to state where an item is made. Buy American, keep jobs here. And give to Toys for Tots and your local food bank or shelter, please!!!

this toy was given to our 12 month old twins for their birthday. i hated it right away. my kids would press the button and hold the gears and it would grind and then they would cry. they just wanted to be able to take the gears off and on while the center gear turned but they couldn’t. They would get angry with it and throw it to the side and move on to another toy. the pieces get lost so easily and there are not enough of them in the first place! a year after recieving this toy we attempted to sell it in a garage sell for a dollar. it was the only toy left at the end of the sale! i even tried to give it to one mother who politely refused the free toy. Maybe she, like me, realized that this toy has no educational value, the peices will end up everywhere, and her child will quickly loose interest like any child with an imagination.

I bought this toy last year after reading only great reviews on the amazon site but was not happy when I got it in the mail. Durable? Absolutely. Educational? Sure. But it did not hold my 15 month old son’s attention at all! He lost interest after about 30 minutes but enjoyed scattering the gears under tables and across the floor. I finally had to throw it out because he wouldn’t go near it except for the minute it took to turn it upside down and drop all the gears all over the place – then he would walk away (not my idea of playing.) If you have an active child, go with the Hoover child-size vacuum instead. Now *that* is a toy that will keep them busy for hours.

My husband and I were very disappointed in this toy for our toddler twins — though really, the disappointment is my own fault, since I did not take the time to really check this toy out before buying it. I saw the gears in the online photo, and remembered a toy I had when I was little, where all the gears could be moved around in different patterns — and then thinking about that toy, I bought this modern toy. Well, old and new are NOT the same. The good news is that both our boys liked this toy and one of them LOVED it, to the point of crying hysterically when it was taken away for the night. The bad news is that as far as I can tell, this toy teaches the child very little, since the gears can only be arranged in one pattern if you want them to go around. My one boy clearly found this toy absolutely mesmerizing, and would punch the button over and over again, reveling in the music and lights. My husband found our son’s behavior disturbing (”He’s acting like it’s a Vegas slot machine!”) and after we both decided that our son was getting nothing out of it but a penchant for pushing buttons and watching the wheels turn, we banished it to the garage.

So if you are looking for something to mesmerize your kid and keep him/her out of your hair for a little while, this is the toy! (And hey, I am the first to admit that sometimes that’s all you need!) But if you are looking for a toy with some educational value, I don’t think this is it.
